What is the difference between a storage heater and other heating systems?
What is the difference between a storage heater and other heating systems?
Surface storage heaters are characterized by the fact that they heat the room using a combination of radiant and convection heat. Radiant heat is generated by heating a storage core integrated into the radiator, typically made from stone types frequently used for this purpose, such as soapstone or fireclay. This core then transfers the absorbed heat to the hot fins of the radiator before they release the heat into the room air in the form of radiation.
In addition, cold air flows from below through the radiator, warms up against the fins, and is finally released at the top as convection heat. This combination of radiant and convection heat creates a pleasant indoor climate. Due to the even release of heat, the AeroFlow® electric heater functions like a tiled stove - without additionally polluting your living spaces.
With heating systems such as night storage heaters, the heated air is distributed in the room by means of a fan. This process causes dust and allergenic particles to be swirled up and distributed as well. Instead, the surface storage heater warms your living spaces evenly without additionally swirling up the air. Therefore, surface storage heaters are optimally suited for allergy sufferers.
Furthermore, surface storage heaters are particularly easy to install and, in contrast to other heating systems, are significantly cheaper to purchase. No complicated installations are necessary for their maintenance-free use. Likewise, surface storage heaters do not produce any unpleasant odors or noises when generating heat. Because of these advantages, Thermotec relies on the surface storage heater as the optimal heating solution for your home.
What is special about the AeroFlow® electric heaters?
What is special about the AeroFlow® electric heaters?
AeroFlow® electric heaters are surface storage heaters that contain a high-density fireclay core as a heat storage element. These energy-saving AeroFlow® electric heaters are produced using a unique manufacturing process. You receive a 30-year warranty on their reliable heating performance. In addition, you receive a two-year manufacturer's warranty on the corresponding control unit.
The fireclay core integrated into the AeroFlow® electric heaters allows the heater to be switched off in phases after the room has been heated. Consequently, the AeroFlow heater is not in continuous operation, but only for approximately 20 minutes per hour. This approach is made possible by fireclay, a rock-like material artificially produced from clay and aluminum oxides. Due to its composition, it can store thermal energy longer than other stones.
With an AeroFlow® electric heater, you are opting for a combination of radiant and convection heat, which creates a pleasant room climate with even heat distribution. This gives it an advantage over, for example, infrared heating, which only provides radiant heat.
The quickly heated 2 cm thick fireclay core of the AeroFlow electric heater allows for an even release of heat into your living spaces, so that the heating performance is similar to the effect of tiled stoves.
Furthermore, by using an AeroFlow electric heater, you avoid the air turbulence caused by fans or blowers, such as those used in simple radiators. The radiator is made of robust steel with a high-quality white powder coating and functions without producing any unpleasant odors or noises.
The AeroFlow electric heaters from Thermotec also include a thermostat, with which you can control the heating output conveniently and efficiently according to your needs. This way, heat is released into your living spaces exactly when it is really needed. All important operating modes are integrated into this thermostat:
- manual temperature control
- radio chip for use via the AeroFlow app
- programmable daily and weekly schedule
What is the power consumption of the AeroFlow® heaters?
What is the power consumption of the AeroFlow® heaters?
Electricity consumption is influenced by your individual heating requirements. It also depends on external factors such as the size and thermal insulation of the rooms, the outside temperature, and the size, number, and insulation of the existing windows. However, with the watt calculator, you can easily determine how many watts the AeroFlow® electric heater needs to provide uniform warmth in your living spaces.
AeroFlow® heaters contain a fireclay storage core, which serves to evenly release the stored heat after a short warm-up phase. As a result, AeroFlow electric heaters are only in operation for approximately 20 minutes per hour, rather than running continuously. By creating your personal heating schedule, you can also precisely determine when and where you need specific heating output. This optimal controllability can reduce your electricity consumption.
How do the AeroFlow® electric heaters from Thermotec work?
How do the AeroFlow® electric heaters from Thermotec work?
AeroFlow® technology consists of an optimal combination of characteristically shaped fins and a specially developed, high-density fireclay brick. The bricks, artificially produced from clay and aluminum oxides, are heat-resistant and fireproof, making them ideal for heater construction.
AeroFlow® electric heaters are only in operation for the duration of the fireclay core's heating process and therefore do not run continuously. In rooms that are already heated, for example, they switch off after 20 minutes of operation per hour. After the short heating phase, the heat stored in the fireclay core is released evenly into the room air, creating a comfortable room temperature. As the heat is released, the storage core cools down and is subsequently reheated. Depending on the setting, the surface temperature of the AeroFlow® electric heaters from Thermotec reaches between 30 and 65 degrees.
The specially developed heating and control system enables AeroFlow® electric heaters to deliver heat exactly where and when you need it. It transports the heat from the fireclay storage core to the room air via flow-optimized fins. With the help of a special thermostat, you can also conveniently control the heating output according to your needs.
The result is an efficient heating and control system that offers numerous advantages:
- The effective conversion of electrical energy into radiant and convection heat ensures a pleasant room climate with uniform temperatures.
- AeroFlow® electric heaters allow for very rapid heating of a cold room, which is why they represent an excellent alternative to, for example, night storage heaters.

What is the energy consumption of AeroFlow® heaters and what energy costs should be expected?
What is the energy consumption of AeroFlow® heaters and what energy costs should be expected?
Energy consumption
The energy consumption of AeroFlow heaters is determined by your usage behavior, which depends on your heating requirements. With the help of a virtual wattage calculator, you can easily and quickly find out how many watts your new electric heater needs to heat your home evenly.
Other decisive factors (as with other conventional heating systems) are:
- Thermal insulation of the apartment/house
- Size of the room
- Outside temperature
- Set indoor temperature
- Size, number, and insulation of the windows
- Output of the installed radiators
- Other devices in the room (e.g., refrigerators)
AeroFlow® electric heaters are characterized by optimal temperature control according to your individual needs via display or wireless control. By creating a personal heating schedule and using practical setting options such as lowering the night temperature, only as much heat is released as you actually need. Because of this efficient heating system, your energy consumption can be reduced.
The fireclay core integrated into the AeroFlow® electric heaters allows for phased switching off after the room has been heated. Thus, the AeroFlow® heater is not in continuous operation, but only for about 20 minutes per hour. This procedure is made possible by fireclay, a rock-like material artificially produced from clay and aluminum oxides. Due to its composition, it can store thermal energy longer than other stones, which is why the energy consumption cannot be determined exactly. However, it is therefore optimally suited as a heat storage medium for AeroFlow electric heaters.
Energy costs
Energy costs depend significantly on your individual energy consumption. The higher the personal heating requirement and the more often the heater is used, the higher the energy consumption will be. Another decisive factor is the fees and conditions of the electricity provider of your choice.
However, the experience of our satisfied customers shows that, for example, compared to a night storage heater, you can save 20-30% of average heating costs with the AeroFlow® electric heater. Our heater also has another attractive advantage regarding costs compared to conventional heating systems: during purchase as well as during operation, you save on the costs that would otherwise be incurred for inspections, the chimney sweep, and exhaust gas measurement.
Where can the AeroFlow® electric heater be used?
Where can the AeroFlow® electric heater be used?
AeroFlow® electric heaters can be integrated wherever no alternative oil or gas heating system is available or can be retrofitted. The electric heaters can also be used without any problems as auxiliary heating in combination with other heating systems such as tiled stoves or fireplaces.
Before you decide on an AeroFlow® electric heater, you should ask yourself which room you want to heat. In order to heat as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, the output of the AeroFlow® electric heater must match the respective room size. An AeroFlow® electric heater that is too small requires a comparatively long time to heat your living space and consumes unnecessarily large amounts of energy due to its low power capacity.
The existing conditions of your living space are also crucial for the optimal use of your AeroFlow® electric heater. The outer walls should be well insulated in order to use the radiator efficiently, as otherwise valuable heat will escape to the outside unintentionally.
In order to create ideal environmental conditions, the windows and doors should be well sealed so that no cold air from the outside can enter the home. Unrenovated old buildings can therefore not be heated at maximum efficiency. New buildings and renovated houses, on the other hand, are very well suited for the use of AeroFlow® electric heaters.
The AeroFlow® electric heater is also particularly well suited for working in a home office, i.e., in your own living spaces, by ensuring a pleasant room climate while you work. Other possible locations for use include:
- Holiday homes
- Conservatories
- Garden sheds
- Guest rooms
- Basements, hobby rooms
- Offices
- Retrofit rooms (e.g., attics)
- Workshops, garages
- Dining rooms
- Storage rooms
- Stairwells, hallways
- Bungalows
- Passive houses
- Construction and office containers
- Trade fair and sales stands
AeroFlow® electric heaters are suitable for both private and commercial purposes. They are suitable as a primary heat source, but also as auxiliary heating, since the heaters can be easily integrated into all common heating systems (including photovoltaic systems).
Are the electric heaters contaminated with asbestos?
Are the electric heaters contaminated with asbestos?
Asbestos is the term used for a group of natural silicate minerals characterized by their heat- and acid-resistant properties. Because asbestos has very high strength, its fibers were frequently used in a wide variety of areas in the past. Since the 1970s, asbestos has been classified as carcinogenic, which is why this material should no longer be used at all.
Asbestos poses a danger to people and the environment, especially when fibers are released during renovation or refurbishment work. Inhaling the barely visible fibers can cause serious and incurable diseases, such as scarring of the lung tissue. Other serious consequences can include lung and laryngeal cancer, which quite often end in death.
For this reason, the AeroFlow® electric heater is intentionally manufactured without asbestos. The heaters contain exclusively the long-proven material fireclay, in accordance with the highest quality standards. This artificially produced, rock-like and comparatively brittle material consists of clay and aluminum oxides. It is processed with the utmost care.
Due to its fireproof and heat-resistant nature, fireclay is ideally suited as a heat storage medium and insulation layer for fireplace construction. The fireclay core in our electric heaters has proven its worth due to its excellent ability to store thermal energy, unlike many other types of rock.
